Quarries are large deposits of rock, mined for construction purposes. Quarry stone is generally extracted by blasting (using explosives) to produce extractable stone for use as aggregate. Aggregate Industries operates some of the largest quarries in United States. Soil-Tech was called in to utilize our Plas-Tex™ product to stabilize the loose soil and prevent it from blowing over the mountain into the neighboring master-planned community of Southern Highlands.

Lake Mead

Plas-Tex™ made a major splash in the construction of Lake Mead's straw intake. Because of the speed of production to install pipe, Soil-Tech utilized Plas-Tex™ to help the pipe contractor install their pipe at a quicker production rate. By spraying Plas-Tex on the cut slopes leading to the pipe, the slopes were stabilized enough to allow the pipes to be connected and backfilled immediately after.

Detention Basin

Soil-Tech’s Plas-Tex™ soil binder has been used across hundreds of acres of detention basins throughout Clark County, Nevada to eliminate fugitive dust from damaging neighboring residential areas during wind storms. With its long-lasting features and naturally occurring components, Plas-Tex™ is an ideal environmental solution for long-term, non-traffic dust control.

Soil-Tech’s innovation in seeding native habitats and controlling fugitive dust led to the development of its Plas-Tex soil stabilization product offering. Plas-Tex not only stabilizes terrain from erosion, but also offers the unique feature of facilitating plant germination when mixed with seed. In addition, the proprietary Plas-Tex product is derived from gypsum, a naturally occurring mineral that is mined in the Western United States and safe for the environment.

Plas-Tex has been applied on numerous projects requiring soil stabilization, and is particularly effective in providing 1-2 years of temporary stability to hillsides and other areas when native seed is being laid. The Plas-Tex absorbs moisture to help facilitate germination, and breaks up over time when the native plant material grows through the crust and takes over the role of stabilizing the soil.
